Pauni is located in Bhandara district, 82 km southeast of Nagpur. The present town, situated about three kilometers south-west of the Wainganga River, is surrounded by an ancient wall adorned with forelocks, of which those on the west nearly to be ineffective. Those magnificent walls, which grow in some places to about twenty meters, are surrounded by a dust about twenty meters wide. This old boat has turned into a small modern lake called Balasamudra.
